FTTH Drop Cable Assemblies

Pre-connectorized drop cable assemblies move connector installation and testing from the field into a controlled production process. For operators, they can shorten activation time, reduce dependence on field splicing skills, and create more consistent optical performance across large residential rollouts. They are used between access terminals and homes, through ducts or aerial spans, and from building entry points to outlets or ONTs.

The assembly must match the complete route. Important choices include cable construction, hardened or conventional connector interface, end configuration, pulling direction, connector protection, environmental sealing, standard length increments, polarity, attenuation limits, and packaging for field crews. A correct assembly also needs to fit the terminal port, available slack-storage method, duct size, and expected distance variation. Overly long assemblies create storage problems, while poorly protected ends can be damaged during pulling.
